Registering your plug-in solar kit
Every plug-in solar kit has to be registered with your local electricity network. It's free, you do it yourself at myplugin.solar, and it's best done before you first plug the kit in.
Why you register
The grid connection rules (G98, changed by Ofgem on 11 August 2026) let households tell their network about a plug-in kit themselves. Registering tells your network operator that a small generator is connected at your address.
How to register at myplugin.solar
- 1Go to myplugin.solarIt's free to use.
- 2Add your detailsFollow the steps to add your address and your kit's details.
- 3Keep your confirmationSave any confirmation you're given with your kit's paperwork.
What you need
- your address
- the kit's make and model, as written on the box or paperwork (for example, Duo 890W)
- the model code from the box or paperwork
- your name and email address
When to do it
Before you first use the kit. Sources differ on the timing: the G98 rules allow up to 28 days after you start using it, while network operators and safety groups say before. Registering before you plug in keeps it simple.
If you might return the kit, wait until you're sure you're keeping it. If you later stop using the kit or move house, tell your network operator.
Two more things the maker asks
- Photograph the label and QR code on the back of the APsystems microinverter, so you keep its serial number. You'll need it for the app and for any warranty claim.
- Register the kit with its maker too, so your warranty is on record. The paperwork in the box shows how.
- Check your Wi-Fi reaches the spot. The AP EasyPower app needs it to show what the kit is making.
